A directory that checks

TriVetted is a local business directory for New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, built by a small team that has spent years doing web and marketing work for local businesses across the same three states.

That work taught us two things. First: the difference between a good local business and a bad one is enormous, and almost none of it shows up in a star rating. Second: the directories people actually use don't check anything — anyone can buy a listing, and "verified" usually means a credit card cleared.

So the rule this directory is built on is simple: badges must mean something a stranger can check. When a listing here says a license is verified, it names the official state registry we looked it up in and the date we looked. When a placement is paid, it says so. When we don't have enough data to say something honestly, we say "not enough data" instead of making it up.

We're starting small — a set of launch counties in each state where we can verify businesses properly — and expanding only as fast as the checking allows.
